Small-gauge Corner You Can Touch, Read and Watch Films

The production of small-gauge cameras was originally intended for home entertainment and educational purposes. This type of camera made its debut in Taiwan as products introduced from abroad and gradually became ‘creative tools’ for amateurs. The desire to record or create on film has led to a way of conveying messages across time and space.

As complement to TAIWAN SPECTRUM | UNTITLED REEL: AMATEUR, SMALL-GAUGE FILMS AND OTHERS, the exhibition adjacent to the cinema on the 2nd floor of the TFAI comprises small-gauge (8mm and 9.5mm) equipment from the TFAI film archive and private collections, ranging from cameras, splicers, viewers to projectors, showing the processes of amateur small-gauge filmmaking to the viewers. In addition to assisting in the screenings and lectures, welcome to experience this corner closely, watch special projections of 8mm film cartridges, and browse themed book selections in the reading area, offering further glimpses beyond the official history of film.
