TIDF Award winning ceremony to be held on May 12th Members of Competition Juries Announced

On Friday, 6th of May the opening ceremony of the 13th Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival (TIDF) took place in the new premises of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute. The 10-day festival showcases a record number of 188 films from around the world, with 43 films screened in the competitions sections, the Asian Vision Competition, International Competition and Taiwan Competition, and 18 entries for the cross-sectional TIDF Visionary Award which substitutes the former Chinese Documentary Award. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on the evening of May 12th.

 

TIDF again boasts a strong line-up of international jury members. Outstanding festival curators, filmmakers, and professionals from arts and cultural circles from different parts of the world have joined the selection panels and competition juries. The exchange of diverse perspectives, combined with the expertise and professionalism of the jurors will become the result of the award winning titles for the 13th TIDF!

Jury members from Taiwan and Hong Kong include well-known director Singing CHEN, TIDF 2018 Outstanding Contribution Award winner KE Chin-yuan, independent documentary director and producer TSAI Tsung-lung, and Hong Kong media personality and entrepreneur ZHANG Jieping.

The jury also includes three members from East and South East Asian countries,  Japanese curator and media advocate SEI Keiko; KIM Dongryung, a leading South Korean filmmaker; THONG Kay Wee, Program Director of the Singapore International Film Festival; and KONG RITHDEE, Deputy Director of the Thailand Film Archive.

Other international judges are Raul NIÑO ZAMBRANO, Head of Film Programme of the Sheffield Doc/Fest; Tiny MUNGWE, South-African cross-disciplinary curator and art director; María PALACIOS CRUZ, Programme Director of the Open City Documentary Film Festival, London; and María CAMPAÑA RAMIA, Programmer of the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam. And finally, a youth jury of 23 high school students for the Next Generation Award that was established in collaboration with the Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation.

The 13th Taiwan International Documentary Festival will be held from May 6th to May 15th at the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, Vie Show Cinemas Taipei Qsquare, SPOT Huashan, and the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab. In addition to screening 188 outstanding documentaries and holding 72 post-screening discussions, the festival organized two Master Classes, two online panels, and two online talks.
