Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania
Synopsis
The film consists of three parts, wherein as a 'displaced person' I speak of my relationship to home, memory, culture, uprootedness, and childhood. The first part was shot during my first years (mostly from 1950–1953) in America, showing me and my brother Adolfas; immigrants in Brooklyn; the streets of Williamsburg. The second part was shot in Lithuania, August 1971, chiefly in Semeniškiai, the village I was born in, where we celebrated our homecoming for the first time in 25 years. The third part begins with a parenthesis in Elmshorn, a suburb of Hamburg, where we spent a year in a forced labour camp during the war.
