Appropriate Appropriation: Archive and More
Stories of individuals and nations, traces of trampling by History, and time with family and friends are all frozen in the carrier of image. Through deconstructing pre-existing footage, artists extract various elements from the original context, appropriating and integrating them into well-crafted settings, creating sites for new narratives.
Such creative approaches liberate the forms and content of archives, in order to explore the qualities of medium and formulate subversive aesthetic strategies which probe the relations regarding political economy, society, culture, individual, and family as well as interrogate the connection and transformation of past, present and future.
