Sonia, a 52-year-old intellectual living in Brussels, has been working as a prostitute for 30 years. She has her own 'salon'. While sitting behind her window, she tells us how she loves her work and her clients. But how does one define her particular slant on love and affection? What is her relationship to seduction, bodies and men?

Estamira tells the story of a 63 year-old woman who suffers from schizophrenia. Estamira has lived and worked for the past 20 years at the waste disposal site of Jardim Gramacho in Rio de Janeiro. Charismatic and maternal, Estamira shares her life with a community of elderly folk at the waste site. The film shows her life during four years of continuous medication; reveals her transformation and the effects the drugs had upon her.

Painter Liu Xiaodong visited the Three Gorges area to create his oil painting series < Hot Bed >. Eleven local deconstruction workers became the models on his live sketch. Fengjie, with its two thousand years of history, will be dissipated very soon. Under the <Hot Bed> series, Liu Xiaodong invited eleven tropical women as the models in Bangkok, Thailand. Both cities have their own river running across the city centre, galloping forward and never return.

"Nicky is seven. His parents are older and meaner." A Place Called Lovely references the types of violence individuals find in life, from actual beatings, accidents and murders, to the more insidious violence of lies, social expectations, and betrayed faith.

Nanook and his family arrive at a trading station after several days trekking. They barter furs for goods while Nanook listens to music from a gramophone. The traders explain that the sounds come from a record, but Nanook, who is familiar with the songs of whales tries to eat it. The documentary describes the trading, hunting, fishing and migrations of a group of Eskimo people barely touched by industrial technology. It was praised as the first full-length, anthropological documentary in cinematographic history.
