15th TIDF Outstanding Contribution Award Honors PTS Viewpoint World Premiere of KE Chin-yuan’s New Film Water in the Balance
The Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF) organized by the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) has announced that the recipient of the 15th TIDF Outstanding Contribution Award will be Taiwan Public Television Service (PTS)’s documentary program Viewpoint. The honor is being bestowed in recognition of its outstanding and sustained contribution to documentary filmmaking in Taiwan over the past 27 years.

As Taiwan’s most influential platform for documentary commissioning, co-production, and broadcast, Viewpoint has been a driving force behind the nation’s documentary movement. It has played an invaluable role in fostering talent, nurturing generations of filmmakers, and introducing wide array documentary aesthetics to Taiwanese audiences.


The 2026 TIDF—from May 1 to 15—will host a series of special events honoring Viewpoint. Among the highlights is the world premiere of Water in the Balance, a new PTS production directed by renowned documentarian KE Chin-yuan. KE has premiered 31 works on Viewpoint and was himself a recipient of the TIDF Outstanding Contribution Award in 2018.

Over the years, Viewpoint has nurtured many of Taiwan’s leading documentary filmmakers, such as KE Chin-yuan, TSAI Tsung-lung, CHU Hsien-che, LEE Li-shao, Zero CHOU, and CHEN Chieh-jen. Works originating from the program have received widespread recognition at major national and international festivals, including multiple Golden Horse Awards. A recent success is SO Yo-hen’s Taman-taman (2024), which won awards at TIDF 2024, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam 2024 (Netherlands), and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 2025 (Japan). Viewpoint has also consistently supported cross-border creators such as MIDI Z and LAU Kek-huat, helping their works reach international audiences.

The 15th TIDF will be held from May 1st to 10th of this year, with screenings at TFAI, SPOT - Huashan, Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-Lab), and other sites. More news regarding this year’s events will be released on a rolling basis over the next months. Information on the film’s screening in this year’s Asian Vision Competition, International Competition, Taiwan Competition will be announced on February 24.
