What Should We Have Done?

A 24-year-old medical student, showing signs of schizophrenia, goes untreated due to family denial. Her brother, eight years younger, questions but remains silent. Years later, he records family interactions, revealing his sister's deteriorating condition. Finally, after 25 years, treatment begins. Despite progress, she succumbs to lung cancer in 2021, leaving unanswered questions for her family.  

'My sister was smart, good at drawing, and had great potential. I believe that schizophrenia is not a mental illness but a brain illness, and there is no need to be ashamed or hide it. However, I could not understand the actions of my parents, who could be considered experts. I now know what it's like to feel really troubled because you don't have anyone to talk to. I started recording the facts because they disappeared. It's a boring video that looks like a home video, but I made it because I wanted to help prevent the same thing from happening again.' - FUJINO Tomoaki
