Mr. Cortisone, Happy Days

The isolation room, where he stays for radioavtive iodine treatment, becomes on inspiring cinematic location for the director, who is a cancer patient. Moving in front of and behind the camera , he is convinced of the power of art to control and bring a happy end to his story. Hope is shattered with the discovery of new aggressive tumors in his spine. While waiting for a series of operations in New York City, the director receives large doses of cortisone. His stream of consciousness turns hyper-realistic, and the camera becomes his close and intimate companion.

Jenin…Jenin

Testimony from Yenin residents after the Israeli army's Defensive Wall Operation, during which the city and refugee camp were the scenes of fierce fighting. The operation ended with Jenin flattened and scores of Palestinians dead. Palestinians as well as numerous human rights groups accused Israel of committing war crimes in the April 2002 attack on the refugee camp. "Jenin…Jenin" shows the extent to which the prolonged oppression and terror has affected the state of mind of the Palestinian inhabitants of Jenin.

Justice

Director Maria RAMOS puts a camera where many Brazilians have never been : a criminal courtroom in Rio de Janeiro, following the daily routine of several characters. There are those at work there every day (public attorneys, judges, and prosecutors) and those that are merely passing through (the accused). The camera is used as an instrument that sees the social theater, the structure of power - that is to say, what is, in general, invisible to us. The documentary show the daily life in the Courts by observing hearings of relatively petty crimes.

Symphonic Episodes

"Symphonic Episodes" is a documentary about life, death and the cyclical aspect of it all, and some of the activities that man takes a part in, from the beginning until the end. It's some of the rituals performed in society; birth and death rituals - and what goes on in between work, play, and celebrations, among others. These episodes show different aspects of man: innocence, playfulness, indifference, religiousity, his birth, and his will to hold on to and prolong life, or what remains of who was once living.

Whose Is This Song?

"Whose Is This Song" is a film which shows some of the typical characteristics of the Balkan peoples, for example, their habit of appropriating all that is good and denying others the right to possess the same qualities, the same songs, the same customs, the same temperament. The film takes place in the countries of the Balkan region. The situation is in itself rather comical - the fight to prove that no one other than us can create such a beautiful song.

The Phantom of the Operator

A montage film crafted from Telephone Company movies that were produced in North America between 1910 and 1989. "The Phantom of the Operator" takes us on the trail of the telephone of operators. The operators were like shooting stars in a universe of infinite progress. Over one hundred industrial, advertising and educational productions - called ephemeral films - are at the origin of "The Phantom of the Operator". Despite being overlooked by cinema history, these artifacts shed light on the corporate, scientific and popular imaginations of the past century.

Jerusalem My Love

The director's quest for faith becomes the 'little story' that mirrors Jerusalem's big story-a story about loss, repression and love. Three different and yet not so different men are presented to us : the Jewish charity worker, Israel; the Muslim drug rehabilitator, Muhammad; and the American street prophet, Ted.The 'inner track' follows the director's existential search to discover what faith consist of －and why he loses his lifelong faith, in Jerusalem of all places.

War Children

"War Children" is a documentary of those children who were sent back and forth between Finland and Sweden during World War II. It is a story about the experiences of the children themselves, now 60-70 years old. The film depicts how children are parted from their parents, home and language and how they survive in the new world they are sent to. Ordinary Swedish people opened their homes to refugee children, in some cases even for years. There were nearly 70,000 children spread evenly around the country. Many families formed lifelong relationships with the children.

Fairies and Other Tales

Hermunder, the psychic, told us that some of them still exist back at his home, on the island at the edge of the polar zone, in Iceland. They live in stones, it is said. They don't want to be disturbed, it is said. I can't get ride of the suspicion that the Icelanders are hiding information-the music manager in the capital, the teenagers in the parking lot, the man at the gas station in the middle of nowhere.
