E.SHA Age

In the musical history of Taiwan, E.SHA Singing and Dancing Group, known as the Takarazuka Revue in Taiwan, was in the spotlight for 24 years with their creative and lavish performance style. It all came to an end in 1984. This film documents their comeback twenty-some years later when the former stars began to reproduce their performances with a group of young students.

The Woman, the Orphan, and the Tiger

This film follows a group of international adoptees and other women of the Korean Diaspora in their twenties & thirties. It explores the ways in which trauma is passed on from previous generations to the present. The film exposes how this part of world history has been systematically silenced, but reverberates in the present moment.

When the Dragon Swallowed the Sun

This film reveals for the first time the struggle of a young Tibetan King who is expected to continue a 1,400 year old lineage while the Tibetan freedom movement is at a critical crossroad. The film takes a close look at the internal contradictions within the Tibetan movement. It exposes the uncomfortable truth that the Chinese government is only part of the reason why Tibet has not regained its independence.

Green Rocking Chair

A mix between fiction and documentary with the filmmaker himself as its main protagonist. It seems like the filmmaker hero is looking for the use of an old pre-colonial kind of writing (Baybayin) in the Philippines, but soon it looks like a pretext to look for the absurd in present-day life in his country.

Yours Trolley

The trolley is a rail trolley; it moves by hand power over an old railway and is used as illegal transport by poor people in Manila. The trolley brings the film into contact with the trolley driver and his customers, and through that, it shows a cross-section of society, or better the poor part of society.

Manila Scream

Scream as in the famous painting by Edvard MUNCH. Agony about modern times and hard city life in a monster town like Manila, Philippines. It is a live action film, but the background of the filmmaker as an animator and comic artist is clearly visible. A MUNCH-figure mask is all he needs to make manga out of Manila.

Wayfinding to the Sea

The loneliness of the ocean and various legal restrictions have made the islanders of Taiwan think twice about getting close to the water. This film follows an ordinary citizen who builds a vessel on his own and hopes to sail in the surrounding waters of his country. It not only depicts the dreams and perspectives of seafarers, but also talks about Taiwan’s and other Austronesian nations’ effort in reviving navigation.

The White Diamond

A film about the daring adventure of exploring the rainforest canopy with a novel flying device-the Jungle Airship. Airship engineer Dr. Graham DORRINGTON embarks on a trip to the giant Kaieteur Falls in the heart of Guyana, hoping to fly his helium-filled invention above the tree tops. But this logistic effort will not be without risk. Twelve years ago, a similar expedition into the unique habitat of the canopy ended in disaster when Dorrington's friend Dieter PLAGE, a great natural history filmmaker, fell to his death.

A Whispered Life

Japan 2009. What can indeed share a rock punk singer, a political science student, a manga draftswoman, Tokyo vicegovernor, a young borderline woman with bloody blog? The words of Dazai, the great Japanese writer who committed suicide 60 years ago. Words to love, words to think and to wonder, to resist and sometimes sink. Words to live.

Suspended Duty-Taiwan Military Training Regiment

This film delivers the story of some 4,000 young Taiwanese men who enlisted for the army established by General Sun Lijen in 1949. Receiving a short period of basic military training, they were informed they could return home to wait for reentering active service. However, they have never been officially discharged up to this day…
