Nostalgia: Looking at the Migrant Aboriginal Workers

Located in the suburb of Taichung city, Mao-Sheng Industrial Service is the so-called “Tapau” for aboriginal laborers. Every morning the music from the speaker wakes up those laborers to wash and dress up. No matter how bad the weather is in summer or winter, their laboring bodies are in different construction sites, exposing to the sun and rain all the time. They ask for nothing but the basic needs for family and the future for their kids.

Taichung Railroad Station

Huang Ten Wang, a 74-year-old senior employee of Taichung railroad station, has worked there as a shoe-shiner for more than 60 years. He witnesses various changes of the station. What value he insists on work and the concept on gender reflects a the crystal-clear and unregretful emotion.

Zhongxin Market 2012

Located in the center of Taichung City, Zhongxin Market is at an alley surrounded by aged townhouses. In the morning, greengrocers and shoppers gathered here, when the night comes, it is artists and cultural workers filled the space. People say that a trend of urban renewal is about to come. Zhongxin market carries the memories of the city and activates its cultural vitality. Will all these be erased so easily?

Land Justice

Located in Nantun district in Taichung, Nantun Catholic Church was established by Fr. Delos A. Humphrey from the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America in 1963. In the past 50 years, the church has mainly provided services for the elderly and children in the community. In 2004, when the Taichung City Hall encouraged the citizen to apply for land reformation, the fate of the church started to change.

The Taste of Home

This is a story about leaving home and the taste memory of home in Taichung.

An architect remodels a house, a street artist makes a passerby laugh, a historian finds the way home, where all comrades get onto the streets for revolution. In the end, they all finish a poem with a poet.

His job is to put up printed posters on the wall of buildings. Because of the environmental striction, he often does it during midnight. While he works in gasoline station at midnight, with the clear but empty lane along the gasoline station, the unexpectedly appeared cars are just like unique faunas emerging at the dazzling night. In the moment of re-breathing, they gaze at the same city.
