Karmapa is the spiritual leader, as a living Buddha, of the peace-loving Buddhist tradition in Tibet. Since the Dalai Lama, the current Karmapa, is also a political figure of the independence movement of Tibet, the China government wants to install his own puppet leaders as Dalai Lamas candidates. The result is a turmoil.

Shot between 1994 and 1996, Pyongyang Diaries records the individual human beings living within North Korea, a very restrictive regime and their enthusiasm of more contact with the outside world. Ma-Be-Hao is a small branch of Tai-Ya tribe. Due to the swift changes of the political power in the island, the tribe lost their land. They stated the requirement toward the government, but got the reply as it is hard to define so-called ''native'' and to consider the ownership of the land. However, they keep it in mind that they must acquire land back some day.

The city of Xiamen and the island of Jinmen face each other across the Taiwan Straits. Fishermen began to travel between the two locations after Martial Law was lifted in 1987, resulting in intermarriages. Brides from Xiamen have to spend a long journey to Jinmen, even though you can see Jinmen from Xiamen with naked eye. The homesickness of the brides is a fitting analogy of the relationship between Taiwan and mainland.
