Let the Wind Carry Me

What can be retained with photography? Where is the cinema leading us? Is there meaning to life after all? Mark LEE goes on the road and tries to answer these questions at a pace of 24 frames per second. We followed his swinging footsteps and gathered the fragments lost between frames to discover the passion he gave to the Taiwanese cinema.

Rainmakers

Rainmakers is an investigative documentary about the decline of China's environment. The story is told from the perspective of four civil activists who refuse to accept the ongoing ecological destruction of their homeland. On the border of heroism and stubbornness, four remarkable Chinese civilians explain why they have the courage to fight the local authorities, against all odds.

When the Dragon Swallowed the Sun

This film reveals for the first time the struggle of a young Tibetan King who is expected to continue a 1,400 year old lineage while the Tibetan freedom movement is at a critical crossroad. The film takes a close look at the internal contradictions within the Tibetan movement. It exposes the uncomfortable truth that the Chinese government is only part of the reason why Tibet has not regained its independence.

40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy

In the first documentary to explore the personal effects of 1965 mass-killings of 500,000 people in Indonesia, four families narrate their struggles with survival, their feelings of hatred and revenge. As they break their silence publicly for the first time, each family provides an intimate and frightening look at what it was like for survivors of the mass killings.

Back Home Tomorrow

This film is about victims of war; not only the ones wounded by bombs, bullets, and mines, but the men, women, and children that, physically shattered by war, are denied the right to be cured. The main characters are two children, Murtaza and Yagoub. About their battle against a slow but relentless death sentence occurs as construction commences on the Salam Medical Center.

Hunky Blues - The American Dream

A documentary exploring the fate of hundred thousands of Hungarians who arrived to the United States between 1890 and 1921. To tell their sagas Forgács weaved this grand epic from the early American cinema, found footage, photographs and interviews. The film reveals the difficult moments of arrival, integration and assimilation, which eventually fulfilled their American dream of the later generations.

Saint and Sinner

Chen Yinjen is a prominent novelist in Taiwan. His works succeed in reflecting the social, political and economic development in Taiwan during the past 60 years. This film is an attempt to review Chen’s life, to discuss how his ideals of life are implemented in writing and actions, and to demonstrate how indispensable his role is as a helmsman of the cultural development in Taiwan’s modern literature.

The Woman with the 5 Elephants

Swetlana Geier, eighty-five-year old, is considered the greatest translator of Russian literature into German. Her translations of Dostoyevsky’s five great novels, known as the "five elephants". This film is following her first trip since the war back to the places of her childhood in the Ukraine. Tells of great suffering, silent helpers and unhoped-for chances – and a love of language that outshines all else.

In The Garden of Sounds

A touching, poetic exploration of the relationship between mind, body and sound, and a cinematic journey to the borders of communication. The extraordinary story of Wolfgang Fasser, a blind musician who helps severely disabled children to find their place in the world. Through the use of all kinds of sound, Fasser establishes a method that dramatically improves their abilities of expression and perception.
