I Am the People

As the Egyptian people rise up in Tahrir Square, rural villagers in the south are watching the revolution on TV. From the overthrow of MUBARAK to the fall of MORSI, the film follows the upheavals through the eyes of Farraj, a peasant in the Nile valley near Luxor. In the daily life of the farmer, between hopes and disappointments, change is a long time coming.

Homeland (Iraq Year Zero)

This two-part documentary chronicles the everyday life in Iraq before and after the U.S. invasion. In Part I, the director filmed a group of Iraqis, mostly members of his family, in their expectation of the war. This part ends with the start of U.S. strikes on Baghdad. Part II shows the consequences of this invasion on the main characters. It ends with the violent death of the filmmaker’s nephew, twelve-year-old Haidar.

Yellowing

Besides the student leaders who have been actively involved in the 2014 Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong, there have been many unsung heroes supporting the movement in different ways. This film contains twenty memorandums which recorded the story of a group of young people struggling to fight for their own future, with ups and downs along the way.

Those Who Feel the Fire Burning

As a group of refugees tries to enter Europe illegally by boat, a storm suddenly appears and all hell breaks loose when an old man falls overboard. His perception shifts into a dark, hallucinatory place. Driven by a mysterious power and desperately in search of his loved ones, his soul passes by the everyday reality of many castaway refugees at the border of the alleged paradise, Europe.

Dryads in a Snow Valley

KOGURE and his wife moved from Tokyo to snowy rural Japan. When they restore an abandoned paddy, they excavate an old irrigation system, which connects them with the lost ways of rural life. It is one of the serendipitous moments that make everything worthwhile for them. With the arrival of winter, the whole village is frozen over, but KOGURE and company know how to enjoy life.

23-year-old Soo-vin is a free-spirited only child brought up in a conservative, honourable artist family. She was having the time of her life until she finds out that she is unwantedly pregnant. She finds herself suddenly become the victim of a crazy role-playing circus, being a mother, a wife, a daughter-in-law, and the breadwinner of her new family.
