Modesty and Shame

Synopsis

This documentary is an autobiography of the director, Hervé GUIBERT. For GUIBERT, writing and filming himself constitute a form of oppositional discourse through which he negotiates both his own personal souvenirs and the souvenir of his social identity as a person living with AIDS that he will leave behind him. By putting his own body and identity dramatically on display as well as the way he remembers himself and wants to be remembered. GUIBERT stages an act of self-affirmation, a crucial performative gesture through which he reclaims the right of self-enunciation and memory from the numerous discoursed that alienated him.
