On Hitler's Highway-the Fabulous Art of Surviving

Synopsis

This unique road movie is rife with stopovers in hidden corners of a notorious highway built before World War II to facilitate the invasion of Poland and Russia by Hitler's army. Polish-born director Lech KOWAISKI curiously and relentlessly moves his hand-held camera in the vicinity of the highway that bears the corpses of Polish forced laborers working on the road. He encounters Bulgarian prostitutes, vegetable vendors, illegal immigrants, truckers, and gypsies living around the highway. He patiently listens to the stories told by people that he encounters -- stories of the hardships and sufferings in Hitler's time, under the Russians and even today.
