Chronicle of a Disappearance

Synopsis

What does it mean to be Palestinian in the second half of the twentieth century? Elia Suleiman returned to the land of his birth to answer that question. Director introduces the audience to his extended family and friends. The characters live a life on the margin, mundane yet surreal reality. They daydream. The talk a lot, and say little. They mock themselves. They hold grudges against themselves and each other. When their silence prevails, it speaks of their endurance. "Chronicle of a Disappearance" is a personal meditation on the spiritual effect of political instability on the Palestinian psyche and identity. As such, it is an invaluable contribution to the struggle for peace in the region.
