By now Lav DIAZ is one of the most famous Asian filmmakers around and his long films are legendary, but when this film was made Lav DIAZ was not really internationally known and also the idea of making a very long film was new to him. The film shows the birth of Lav DIAZ’s now famous style: very long takes in a very long film to tell a very social story that is very moving.
