Scavengers-Forotten Children

Synopsis
In northern Manila, over 21,000 illegal squatters live in make-shift shacks surrounding a garbage dump named Smokey Mountain. There they scrounge out a meagre existence earning about 30 to 50 pesos a day (USDl.50 to 2.50) by scavenging plastic, glass and metal from the garbage and selling it to local junk dealers. In a place where death is an everyday occurrence, the smiling faces of children is also found, working to support themselves and their families. The film focuses on four of these children. J R, Marilou, Christina and Emong.
