The Passing Water

Synopsis

In 1736, Hakka ancestors, led 16 families from the area of Wu-Luo Zhung into the foorhills of the Ling, Moonlight, and Double Peak Mountmns. The clansmen called this newly cultivated land “Mi-Nong" which is currently the town of Meinun in Kaoshiung County. In Pin-pu language, Mi-Nong means "a place surrounded by water vapor." So when the Hakka ancestors first settled there, frequent disputes erupted between different clans over the water. A hundred some years later, the government’s plan to contrast a Meinun Dam sets off new ‘old’ problems for the inhabitants of Meinun.
