Hitchcock, Selzinick and the End of Hollywood

Synopsis

Just 36 years old, Selznick was already a legend. With Gone With the Wind, he taught Hollywood how to create an event. But it was during the shoot of that film that Selznick made his most lasting contribution to American filmmaking. In the summer of 1939, David O. Selznick brought Alfred Hitchcock to Hollywood. David O. Selznick represented the studio system where the producer/studio had complete control over a picture and the talent under contract; while Alfred Hitchcock was to become one of the first directors recognized for the unique authorship he commanded over every aspect of his movie making.
