Reason

From 2013 to 2017, gunmen on motorcycles has shot dead four prominent Indian rationalists, all non-violent opponents of right-wing, upper-caste Hindutva supremacists. Reason examines the rise of a myopic authoritarianism that is threatening India, the world's largest democracy. Its eight chapters also bear witness to heroic acts of resistance in an epic battle that the world cannot afford to look away from.

Memento Stella

The filmmaker reduces 4K video footage of various cities and common objects to the finest grains, and then layers these abstract images to create a visually evocative contemplation of human existence. The title of the film, an original phrase meaning 'remember the stars' and 'remember we live among the stars', invites the viewer to transcend the earthly boundaries that are tearing us apart.

Just Don't Think I'll Scream

It was January 2016; the love story that brought me to the village in Alsace had ended six months ago. At 45, I was alone, without a car, a job, or any real prospects. France, still in shock from the November 2015 terrorist attacks, was in a state of emergency. I felt helpless, lost, and suffocated with contained rage. I decided to record this stagnation by editing shots from the stream of films I watched.

A Brief History of the Obliteration of Hope

This is a monument to the Tlatelolco massacre of 1968 in Mexico City, ten days before the opening of the Olympics. Hundreds of civilian protesters were gunned down or simply disappeared, yet no justice has been served even decades later. This film is nearly wordless. In place of words, increasing violence is enacted against the images, its grotesqueness commensurate with the complete physical obliteration of the students who organised for progressive change.

Your Turn

Your Turn depicts the Brazilian student movement from the protests of 2013 to the election of the new Brazilian president, Jair BOLSONARO, in 2018. Inspired by the collective voice of the movement itself, the documentary is narrated by three high school students, who represent central points of their struggle. The narrators’ jostling for space and time reveals the movement's inner conflicts and demonstrates its complexity.

Contemporary Scenes

The filmmakers turn their concerns over the past and the present of this turbulent world into documentaries, revealing the innermost of our minds and thoughts. Through these selected films, we see the contemporary scenes in which we live.
