Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania
Synopsis
There are three parts to this film. The first part is made up of footage MEKAS took during his primitive years in America. It depicts immigrants picnicking, singing and dancing in their adopted homeland. The second part, shot in 1971, is comprised largely of a visit MEKAS made to his native Lithuania where he is greeted with open arms by his forebears and his beloved mother. The third, and perhaps most crucial part, moves to Hamburg in Germany where MEKAS spent three years with his brother in a labor camp during World War II. It culminates in the filmmaker's attempts to center his life and his discovery of religion, the great leveler.
