Lau Kek-huat is a Taiwan-based Malaysian filmmaker. His debut feature Boluomi competed in the New Currents section at the Busan International Film Festival. From Island to Island won Best Documentary Feature at the Golden Horse Awards. His narrative feature The Waves Will Carry Us received five Golden Horse nominations. His documentaries Absent without Leave and The Tree Remembers, on Malayan Communist history and ethnic conflict, remain censored in Malaysia.
